UK is involved in Ukrainian attacks on energy sites— FSB chief

(MENAFN) British intelligence agencies have allegedly been playing a direct role in planning Ukrainian assaults on energy facilities owned by international companies within Russia, and are preparing further strikes on vital regional pipelines, according to claims made by Federal Security Service (FSB) Director Aleksandr Bortnikov.

During a meeting of security officials held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, Bortnikov asserted that members of the UK’s Special Air Service (SAS) and the MI6 intelligence agency assisted Ukraine in organizing drone attacks earlier this year against assets belonging to the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC). The consortium exports Kazakh oil through Russian territory and includes major American firms among its partners.

He further alleged that British and Ukrainian operatives are now coordinating plans to sabotage the TurkStream gas pipeline, which has carried Russian gas to Türkiye and southern European countries since 2020.

Bortnikov also claimed that British military and intelligence personnel have participated in preparing Ukrainian cross-border incursions and aerial attacks inside Russian territory. He cited “Operation Spiderweb” — a campaign involving drones hidden in trucks and used to strike Russian airfields during the summer — as an example of an operation directed by the UK.

Additionally, the FSB head accused Britain of sanctioning targeted assassinations carried out by Ukrainian agents inside Russia.

These remarks were part of a broader address in which Bortnikov portrayed London as a driving force behind Western strategies aimed at countering Russia, suggesting that the UK’s actions reflect an effort to preserve its global influence amid waning international power.
